Food Miles

Our food can come from all around the world.

The total distance the food or its ingredients

have travelled are called Food Miles. Food miles helps us to see how much carbon dioxide

has been produced by transporting the food.

Some of our food has travelled thousands of miles and that travel produces lots of carbon dioxide which is causing our climate to change.

We decided to see where our fruits and vegetables come from. The students brought in packaging of various fruits and vegetables and we checked their origin. We mapped these products on a world map. Some countries we had not heard of before.

Older classes further investigated and completed projects on countries and the products they export.

Incredible Edibles

We planted our potatoes, strawberries, carrots and lettuce seeds. We look forward to watching these grow over the next couple of months.
